If you are a Lion, and perhaps planning to visit Coventry, we hope that the information here will encourage you to visit us. Throughout this site you can read about the many different ways we are making a difference in local communities. With more volunteers in more places than any other service club organisation, we love to help others and make things happen at the heart of local communities across the British Isles & Ireland, and throughout the world.
History in the making
Lions Club of Coventry Godiva is part of the International Association of Lions Clubs and is the largest service organisation in the world with a membership of over 1.3 million spread over 200 countries.
Our club was formed in May 1994 by a group of 20 members from Business and Professional backgrounds with the single objective of getting together and raising funds for the needy in our communities both at local and international levels. We are a registered Charity and all the Godiva Lions members give their time on voluntary basis.
Being part of the world Lions family, and a network of clubs throughout the globe, Lions are always first to help the many destitute and the needy people when natural disasters or calamities fall upon them.
In the past 22 years, the club has gone from strength to strength, and is one of the most active and successful in the Lions District 105M.
Since the formation of our club, we have been able to make many donations towards appeals for assistance that we receive regularly from all sections of the Community, both in the UK and abroad, whether it is to assist the needs of children, the sick, the elderly, the homeless or aiding those who have suffered from major disasters that happen around the world.
Fundraising is the most important and main part of any service organisation. Various fund raising events have been held over the years by the Lions Club of Coventry Godiva. Some of the main ones were the Annual Mela, Charity Golf tournaments, sponsored walks, sponsored swimming, Karaoke and talent night, Wake awake night, Racing night, Valentine and New Year’s Eve parties, Santa’s Grotto, Collections at stores and supermarkets throughout the region. Lately we have organised Music events and Beer festivals.
The entire club meets to discuss general business matters on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00pm.
