Godiva Lions Coventry held our 14th Annual Charity Golf Event at Stonebridge Golf Club on Saturday 18 June 2016.
As our goal is to fundraise and remain unique in comparison to other similar competitions, we are open to competitors as young as 13 and welcome both men and women.
This very popular annual event is always very well supported by friends, family and other Lions Clubs from and all over Midlands, Bedfordshire, London, the south east and North England. This year, we had 48 diverse golfers including ladies and juniors and gentlemen taking part in the event.
The competition was organised our Golf Captain by Lion Jaz Ghataurhae and his dedicated team. As in previous years, the format is a Stableford competition with ¾ handicap allowance, played on an individual entry basis with players divided into three divisions depending on their golfer handicap.
There were prestigious prizes for the winner, 2nd place and 3rd place plus one for “nearest to the pin” and “longest drive” for each division. There is also a main rolling trophy, “Godiva Lions Trophy” for the individual with the highest scoring points on the day. There were prizes for the ladies and junior golfers as well. All the prizes were donated by our Lions Abbi and Tarsem Kundi in memory of their late mother.
The successful day included breakfast with teas, coffees and our very popular halfway house offering a selection of food and drinks, courtesy of Lion President Kulwinder.
The evening was followed by delicious Indo/ Chinese “live” cooking by a renowned Chef and his team.
Around 90 people including friends, family and partners of the players joined the evening social and prize-giving ceremony. There was a raffle daw with many super and many prizes. A sought-after prize was a round of golf for two at the prestigious Woburn Golf & Country Club, kindly donated by our regular participant and supporter Raj Ranauatta, was auctioned.
The event raised in excess of £925 towards the club’s local charities and we look forward to everyone’s continued support in the future.
