Godiva Lions Food Stall

GODIVA LIONS FOOD STALL LENDS A HAND AT THE CITY’S SOUTH ASIAN ARTS AND CULTURE SHOWCASE EVENT

Following on from its success in 2015, Jonquils Events in association with Belgrade Theatre Coventry returned to stage the city’s annual one-day South Asian Arts Festival on Saturday,23 July 2016.

Showcasing Coventry’s South Asian arts, artists and arts organizations, the Coventry Belgrade Mela had representatives from Coventry’s vibrant and diverse South Asian communities coming together to celebrate their arts and culture as well as provided a platform for emerging South Asian talent in the city.

Godiva Lions were invited to hold a food stall offering popular Asian savouries and sweets, and traditional spicy beverages for the visitors. Food was personally prepared and served on the day by club members.

Other stallholders from across the South Asian community at the Mela included health and nutritional products, traditional artisan crafts and organisations providing advice and guidance on health care and support services available in the city. The daytime event ran from 12 noon until 6pm, and visitors to the Mela had the opportunity to take part in a series of free workshops showcasing the best in traditional and modern Asian arts, including the latest Bollywood beats, learning to play a number of South Asian musical instruments, an introduction to Yoga, learning Bollywood dancing and introduction to Bharatanatyam dancing, among many other activities for people of all age groups.

We thank all our well-wishers and those who helped on the stall and are particularly grateful for the support from Neeta Shah and Sarjeet Singh for donating some food items. With everyone’s support, the event raised in excess of £320 for the club’s charities.
