DIWALI Bollywood Style

Saturday 28th October 2023 Lions Club of Coventry Godiva celebrated Diwali Bollywood style! In aid of Kidney Cancer and Kenya water wells. This was our first fundraising event of the current Lion’s year. Guests were warmly greeted with Mithai & Saunf water. Event began with lighting of the lamps by our Lion President Davinder Gahir and 4 senior Lions, Indu Aggarwal, Iqbal Rihal, Tom Kalyan and Abby Kundi. This was followed by a magnificent ‘Ganesh Vandana’ Kathak dance by little Reva. Guests were invited to take part in the fashion catwalk, which went down really well. One female and a male were judged by the four judges to be winners and presented with prizes. After the mains, the guests took part in a Bollywood dance workshop, and then danced the night away to the non stop music of the brilliant DJ, Synergy.

We would like to extend our special thanks to Baljit Ranu of Royal Court Hotel for managing the catering and looking after the details of the event. Thank you to our photographers Visha Chohan and our very own Lion Jaz Ghataurae for the brilliant pics. The raffle draw was a huge success and we raised significant funds towards our chosen charities. Thank you to all the Lions and guests for making it possible.

Golf Tournament Sat 15th July 23

On Saturday, 15th July 2023, the scenic Stoneleigh Deer Park played host to the Godiva Lions Charity Golf Tournament. Attracting over 60 golf enthusiasts from across the UK, the event was not just about the game but a another step in our philanthropic journey. The day's efforts were dedicated to Kidney Cancer UK, our chosen charity for the year.

The entire event was seamlessly organised under the guidance of our Golf Captain, Lion Inderjit Girn, along with his diligent committee. Participants were treated to an enjoyable day on the greens, complete with goody bags, and samosas and sandwiches at the halfway point courtesy of our President, Lion Davinder Gahir. The event was rounded off with a three-course dinner in the evening.

A notable highlight was the presence of Pro Golfer Gurdit Virdee. As a testament to his support for our cause, he generously donated a raffle prize of three free golf lessons.

The Golf tournament winners were:

Division 1: Longest drive - Matt Holcroft, Nearest to the pin - Frankie Haydari, No 1. Jason Gavin, No 2. Paul Webster, No 3. Rishi Aggarwal

Division 2: Longest Drive - Barry Purewal, Nearest to the pin - Kip Singh, No 1. Glen Brow, No 2. Sukh Jatana, No 3. Sanjay Duggal

The Lion Subhash Aggarwal Trophy - Glen Brow. The other trophies were sponsored by Lion Abby Kundi of A1 Turning Ltd. Lion Inderjit thanked all the players, sponsors, Lions and partners for making this event very successful. We raised a substantial amount for charity.

On Saturday, 16th September 2023, in observance of 'World Cleanup Day', the Lions Club of Coventry Godiva spearheaded a community initiative to rejuvenate Edgwick Park, Coventry.

This global event mobilizes volunteers and collaborators to cleanse our planet, targeting rubbish in our beaches, rivers, forests, parks, and streets. In collaboration with the Coventry City Council, the Godiva Lions convened punctually at 10am at Edgewick Park, Foleshill Road. The council graciously supplied litter-picking tools, bags, and dispatched a lorry for waste transportation.

Under the leadership of our Community Service Chief, Lion Bob Sharda, and with guidance from Roland Mackie of the council, over 30 dedicated Lions – including IPDG Lion Rav Sandhu and Lion President Davinder Gahir – along with friends and family, ardently worked to refresh the environs of Edgwick Park.

Many thanks to every participant. Such endeavors truly encapsulate the essence of Lionism at its finest.
